Our story
Northkiln started in 2019 as a shared studio and a secondhand kiln in a converted foundry in Asheville, North Carolina. We were tired of thin, mass-made dinnerware that chipped in a season, so we started throwing our own.
Today it's still just the two of us at the wheels, plus a rotating apprentice each season. We throw in small weekly batches, mix our own reactive glazes from raw materials, and fire everything twice in the same little kiln that started it all. That's why no two pieces are identical, and why your mug is often made the same week you order it.
Stoneware that survives the dishwasher, the microwave and daily life. Glazes that are food-safe and lead-free. Packaging with no plastic. And a fair price for genuinely handmade work, which means we sell direct rather than through galleries with heavy markups.
